The ESA worked along side Blue Peter for over 2 weeks, helping them to produce a television show based around inline skating. Richard & Becca who form part of the ESA marshall team were selected to demonstrate and teach Andy, one of the presenters about freestyle slalom.

The ESA would like to thank Blue Peter for coming down to film our Sunday roller disco and for making the Blue Peter show such an enjoyable experience for Richard & Becca.

ABOUT OUR DAY & Exclusive Photos

Blue Peter

February 2008 gave way to more of Eastbourne’s non-skatable weather and a trip to London’s BBC studios for a select few of us to show the UK our amazing slalom abilities on Blue Peter!

After hearing about the ESA’s fantastic roller discos they decided to come down and film that first to see what we were all about and to include clips on their show.

A few weeks after this, a group of us travelled up to Shepherd’s Bush in London to film the show, live. This group included Nick, Richard, Becca, Max, Rob, Richard’s mum (Sandy), sister (Emily) and brother (Will) and Becca’s mum (Lynn).

We arrived at the studios at about lunchtime and were escorted to the canteen for food, which we ate in our dressing room. For the rest of the afternoon we rehearsed the show over and over again, after being handed our Blue Peter badges.

4:20 soon arrived and the nerves started to build knowing that the live show was only 10 minutes away. The last minute preparations were made and then silence in the studio as the director counted down to transmission.

We were on air! As Zoë, a presenter, introduced us the music started and we were on. Richard started with his run, then Becca, and then a tandem grapevine ended our performance, after which we had to teach Andy, the other presenter.

Since Andy had skated before, he picked up ‘the fish’ very quickly, we also taught him ‘crab’ and ‘grapevine’ that weren’t as successful as the fish, but he still tackled them very well. The programme flew by with all the excitement and soon came to an end.

After a successful and enjoyable day we were all very tired and topped the day off with a dinner in a pub on the way home.
